About the role
VMCH Disability Services has been interested in finding innovative ways to support people with a disability for building skills, experience and learning to support them on their pathway to independence.
We are a social enterprise café based on-site at the Star of the Sea Aged Care home. We have a strong connection and beautiful relationship with the residents and staff of the facility. This is an amazing opportunity to come in and join a growing team of support workers and hospitality professionals.
Our ideal person will help grow the café and be part of café staff & Disability Support Workers team, to provide and deliver the highest levels of customer and hospitality service at our Pathways to Possibilities Learning Hub Café.
About you
As a Café DSW worker you will be responsible to assist and support the daily operations of the café to be a central place for good food & coffee – all while helping your local community live more independent lives.
You will have strong local community connections and networks to engage and enlist NDIS participants to join the program.
Furthermore, you will also supervise and provide hands-on mentoring to young people participating in our trainee program to build their self-confidence, barista and customer service skills and employability qualities. This position will ultimately support NDIS participants develop their personal & professional skills that will improve their independence and chances of securing employment.

Key Selection Criteria
* Coffee making skills W’ knowledge of grinders & coffee machines
* Knowledge of complex conditions that impact on people with disabilities, and their carers, and the capacity to keep up to date with best practice guidelines;
* Experience in making & serving food.
* Knowledge & experience working with people with disabilities
* A sound knowledge and experience of hospitality service
* Well-developed problem-solving skills with the ability to take initiative to meet customer’s needs with available resources;
* Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective business & personal relationships;
* Flexible approach and ability to effectively prioritise and coordinate multiple diverse tasks concurrently;
* Demonstrated success in leading and influencing others towards progressive and innovative ways of responding to individual needs;
* Valid Victorian Driver Licence.
Qualifications and Certifications
* Level 1 Safe Food Handling certificate;
* NDIS Worker Screening Check; (or willing to obtain)
* A current First Aid certificate; (or willing to obtain)
