Working under the direction of the Chief or Lead Invigilator, the Invigilator supervises exam sessions, assists candidates with entry and procedures, and provides first-line support for simple technical or procedural issues. The role requires professionalism, attentiveness, and empathy to create a calm setting that allows candidates to perform at their best.

- Prepare and distribute materials for candidates with special provisions, following instructions provided by the Chief/Lead.
- Liaise with school or venue staff for basic logistics (e.g., recess times, room access), under the Chief/Lead’s guidance.
- Greet candidates and help them feel welcomed and supported.
- Verify candidate identity as instructed.
- Clearly and calmly communicate exam procedures and instructions under direction of the Chief/Lead.
During Exams
- Be prepared to stand for the duration of the shift
- Monitor candidates consistently to ensure exam integrity, fairness and compliance with conditions.
- Remain alert to candidate needs, providing reassurance and practical support where appropriate.
- Record attendance and report any irregularities or incidents (e.g., technical issues, misconduct, illness).
- Escalate complex technical or procedural issues to the Lead or Chief Invigilator.
- Ensure no unauthorised communication or materials are used.
- Assist with registering and seating late arrivals, escalating to the Chief/Lead for decisions on exam access.
After Exams
- Collect, count, and secure exam materials (paper-based) or confirm online submissions.
- Assist in packaging and securely returning all exam materials (paper-based)
- Ensure all materials are accounted for across multiple rooms/venues.
- Assist with packing down the exam room and returning materials as required.
- Complete any incident or misconduct reports factually and promptly under direction of senior staff.
