Area Manager (Perioperative) St John of God Health Care

Your role at St John of God Bunbury Hospital

The hospital is seeking a highly organised Area Manager (Perioperative) to ensure the smooth running of the perioperative department. Reporting to the perioperative services manager, this critical role is responsible for managing the daily staffing of each theatre and communicating changes to ensure lists proceed as scheduled with minimal disruptions and delays, taking action to resolve problems as they emerge.

Bunbury perioperative services comprise a twelve‑bed DSU/DOSA unit which provides pre‑ and post‑operative care to patients. The unit is supported by a pre‑admissions clinic and feeds five busy operating theatres including endoscopy services and a PACU.

The hospital covers a wide range of surgical specialties, including ophthalmology, orthopaedics, trauma, general surgery, endoscopy, gynaecology, plastics, pain, ENT and minor vascular.

Peri‑operative staff are a close‑knit team who are highly skilled, working with skilled surgeons and anaesthetists using modern equipment to provide patients with a high‑quality peri‑operative journey.

The role is offered on a permanent full‑time basis, working 38 hours per week.


Position

Leading and managing the peri‑operative team to deliver patient‑centred care to achieve optimal patient outcomes within allocated resources while supporting the mission and values of St‑John of God Health Care (SJGHC).

Work very closely with the peri‑operative services manager, the clinical risk team, the learning and development team to ensure all national quality standards expectations, ACORN and unit KPIs are met and adhered to.

Provide leadership and management to all departments in the peri‑operative unit: pre‑admission, DPU, theatre, PACU, angiography suite, and support to the administration teams on a daily basis.

Oversee and liaise the day‑to‑day management and staffing requirements with the coordinator of each area as per unit goals and expectations.

Work closely with and assist the peri‑operative services manager with the following:

* Patient safety and quality – SAC1 incidents, incident investigation & quality audits
* Workforce – mandatory competencies, PR&D education & rostering
* VMO satisfaction – VMO NPS
* Patient experience – hospital NPS & patient journey expectations
* Financial stewardship – theatre utilisation & WHPOM financial KPIs


Qualifications and Experience

Current registration through the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) and a strong background in theatre nursing is required. The successful candidate will have proven experience in leading and coordinating staff within a dynamic peri‑operative setting, demonstrating a commitment to delivering high‑quality care to patients and visiting medical officers.

Exceptional interpersonal and relationship‑building skills, a collaborative and professional approach to team leadership, and the ability to provide constructive performance and behavioural feedback.

Proficient in key hospital systems including webPAS and OneStaff; proactive mindset, strong problem‑solving abilities, and confidence to manage and resolve conflict in a professional and timely manner.

* Salary: $129,203 (increase from December 2025) per annum plus 12% superannuation
