The Legal and Commercial Officer is a part of the Strategic Procurement and Commercial Management team. They will be responsible for providing legal and commercial support to Elysium team members and supporting on a wide range of legal and commercial activities impacting the organisation. This will include reviewing and helping to draft commercial contracts to ensure the company's interests are protected. This may also include legal research, reviewing various tender documents and government policy as well as providing support to client projects where appropriate.
This position is based in either Canberra or Sydney. Our offices are located in Braddon, Canberra and Woolloomooloo, Sydney. Elysium offers a hybrid working arrangement for all employees, although you will be expected to work predominately in the office for the first two months of employment. Afterward you may be permitted to work from home depending on requirements and availability.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Under the supervision of the Strategic Procurement and Commercial Management Business Unit Lead, draft, review, negotiate, and finalise a wide variety of contracts including service agreements, confidentiality agreements, teaming agreements and licensing agreements
- Provide advice internal stakeholders regarding legal and commercial issues, including contract drafting and contract management matters
- Research and provide input on a wide range of legal issues including commercial law, corporate law, employment law, intellectual property and HR
- Ensure the company's compliance with laws, regulations, and internal and Government policies
- Contribute to business development activities
- Assist the Strategic Procurement and Commercial Management team with the review and development of procurement documentation, including responses to requests for tender
- Liaise with internal Elysium Stakeholders, external Legal Counsel and Elysium teaming partners
- Participate in the formulation and drafting of general management policy
- Work closely with other departments to ensure commercial opportunities are maximised and legal risks are minimised
- Where appropriate and at the discretion of company management, support external consulting projects
Key Selection Criteria
- Completed a Law degree (LLB, JD, or equivalent), or working towards completion of a Law degree and have a significant level of practical experience in advising on commercial matters
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Suite
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A collaborative attitude to work and problem-solving
- Initiative and a self-starter attitude
- Ability to research and condense information in an easy-to-understand format
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including providing clear, concise advice and input when required
- Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to liaise with a wide range of diverse stakeholders
- Experience in commercial law, preferably within a corporate environment
- Experience in Government and/or Government-related commercial matters
- Knowledge of, and interest in, Government Policy and Public Procurement
- Problem-solving, analytical, and organisational skills.
