About this role

Australia's largest public museum organisation is seeking an Experience and Interpretation Manager at Museums Victoria.

ABOUT MUSEUMS VICTORIA:

Ever dreamed of working in a place where dinosaurs roam, stars explode, and the world's most intriguing stories come to life? Welcome to Museums Victoria (MV)—where every day is a new opportunity to create unforgettable experiences. As one of the southern hemisphere's largest and most iconic museum organisations, we're not just about exhibits; we're about engaging, immersive moments that spark curiosity, creativity, and connection.

Home to the awe-inspiring Melbourne Museum, the culturally rich Immigration Museum, the mind-expanding Scienceworks, and the World Heritage-listed Royal Exhibition Building, MV is a place where events transform spaces and stories into something truly unmissable. Join a passionate team that brings ideas to life and makes discovery part of everyday experience.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Experience and Interpretation Manager ensures that exhibitions are enlightening and thrilling experiences for audiences by applying contemporary interpretation and experience development techniques through collaborative creative practice.

The role is accountable for developing enriching and compelling multi-sensory, story-led experiences across long-term, inbound temporary and outbound exhibitions. Working across platforms and sites, the position influences teams and stakeholders to ensure experiences effectively engage and communicate with defined audiences.

This is achieved through the incumbent's own creative practice, mentoring and supporting the Experience Development team, collaborating within interdisciplinary project teams, and fostering a culture that enables best practice in experience development.

Some of the key duties include:

* Overseeing the quality of narrative design, thematic structures and creative storytelling across exhibitions
* Leading the creative development of impactful audience experiences, including visitor journeys, interactivity and participatory elements
* Developing and improving tools, processes and standards that support transformative experience development

The successful applicant will have:

* Proven leadership experience in audience-centred concept development within a museum or similar environment
* Demonstrated ability to translate information and content into compelling, story-led experiences
* Highly developed collaboration skills, with the ability to lead creative, multidisciplinary teams

OTHER INFORMATION

The successful applicant is required to undergo a National Police Records Check and Working with Children Check and be assessed as suitable (new employees are required to meet this cost).
