**The purpose of the Clinical Assistant is to provide operational support in the Microbiology Department, Pathology Queensland, Gold Coast University Hospital.
Your key responsibilities
You will be required to fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with the Queensland Public Service values.
Adhere to defined service quality standards, health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
Recording specimen arrival at the laboratory
Sample identification, coding, and registration
Operation of automated and other laboratory equipment as well as equipment monitoring, cleaning and maintenance
Develop a sound knowledge of the Laboratory Information System (AUSLAB) and the integrated electronic Medical Record System (ieMR)
Process samples from a variety of specimen types that spans both bacteriological and viral testing
Participate in all rostered shifts which will include days, afternoon, overnights, weekends and public holidays
Work co-operatively and communicate effectively within the Microbiology team and with clients, both internal and external to the laboratory.
Participate in informal and formal education programs
Assist in other non-technical tasks as directed
Comply with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification requirements including performing quality control procedures, assisting with preparation of procedure manuals and completion of relevant statistics.
