Senior Data Scientist - Australian Centre for Student Equity and Success (ACSES)
ACSES is based at Curtin University and is funded by the Department of Education, with additional support from Curtin. ACSES is a respected national research and policy What Works Centre with recognition and authority across Australia's universities (primarily the Table A Providers). Its evidential insights are shared with universities to improve outcomes for disadvantaged students and communities. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) fixed-term contract until 30 June 2027.
Your responsibilities
* Effectively communicate data-driven insights through creation of reports, presentations, and dashboards
* Develop comprehensive analytic plans, outlining methodologies, key metrics, and objectives
* Develop, maintain, and update data documentation, including access manuals and data dictionaries, to assist users in understanding and utilizing available data resources
* Identify relevant data sources and prepare ethics and data applications, ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines and regulations
* Utilise SQL or other database query languages to extract and manipulate data as needed for analysis
* Perform innovative statistical analysis to contribute to identifying data patterns and trends
Who we are looking for / Selection Criteria
* Tertiary qualification in data science, statistics, biostatistics, computer science, or related field
* Demonstrated experience in data management, including data extraction from relational databases, and data processing
* Strong skills in data analysis, including the use of a programming language, such as R
* Experience using data visualisation tools and programming languages to prepare reports or dashboards
* Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders, fostering strong working relationships
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to navigate and manage competing work priorities in complex environments
Desirable Criteria
* Experience working with data relevant to higher education or student equity
* Experience with using linked data
Role Requirements
* As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role
