Role Description
You will be working as part of a team that is responsible for various power and propulsion systems. This role will see you obtain specialist knowledge on relevant systems to eventually take ownership of the system and be the 'go to person' when it comes to enquiries. In this role stakeholder engagement is critical. You will be liaising with various suppliers, including UK/European contacts, to manage the work and ensure execution of products meet requirements for the ship.
Core Duties
* Participate in developing, maintaining and modifying engineering processes and procedures in assigned areas in response to technical developments and operational need.
* Identify areas of the Reference Ship Design (RSD) power and propulsion system design and installation that may be affected by the transfer of build from Glasgow, UK to Adelaide, SA, Australia and assist with the development of any resulting product changes for the Hunter Class.
* Working under some technical supervision, undertake functional design and/or provide advice and qualification for the scope of responsibility and provide evidence for acceptance and fitness for purpose regulatory & legislative requirements, and safety.
* Liaise with both internal and external stakeholders as required ensuring that their requirements are adequately supported and that their needs are fully considered and incorporated where appropriate and agreed.
Essential Skills
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (ideal) or Aeronautical, Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering
* Demonstrated experience working in an engineering capacity. Any maritime or power and propulsion (shaft lines, propellers or diesel generators for example) experience is highly advantageous.
* Strong problem‐solving skills, to work through complex issues.
* Self‐motivation and a proactive approach to progressing all assigned tasks.
* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Ability to collaborate effectively with others, including designers/draftspersons, production, suppliers, and other engineers.
* A current NV1 Clearance or eligibility to obtain.
* Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic in Arms (ITAR) regulations.
