Legal Officer

* Support a collaborative Legal team with response to a major Royal Commission and other inquiries.
* We are seeking a legal officer motivated by complex, high‐impact legal work in the public interest.
* Temporary 10-month, Clerk Grade 7/8 ($113,574 - $125,720) opportunity based in Martin Place, Sydney, with flexible work arrangements supported.

About the Role
As a Legal Officer you will provide input into expert, independent, high‐quality legal advice to support the NSW Government's response to a Royal Commission. You will support with key activities such as responding to notices, assisting with the preparation of witness statements, providing legal advice and contributing towards hearing preparations and document review processes.

The role involves working collaboratively with colleagues across agencies and sectors, applying sound legal judgement in a dynamic, fast‐paced environment. This position offers an opportunity to build experience in inquiries, public law and government processes, while contributing to work of statewide significance.

You will join the Legal Branch, Office of General Counsel, The Cabinet Office. The Office of General Counsel helps the Government deliver its agenda lawfully and effectively through good governance and expert legal advice.
This role is currently available on a 10-month temporary basis with potential to be extended or converted to ongoing.

We're Looking For

* Admission or eligible for admission as a lawyer and holds or eligible to hold a practising certificate: You will be Admitted or qualified for Admission as a lawyer, and if admitted hold, or be eligible to hold, a NSW Practising Certificate.
* Legal Expertise: You have received high‐quality legal training and bring well‐developed core legal skills, including statutory interpretation, legal analysis and drafting, enabling you to contribute effectively to complex legal work under guidance.
* Clear and Effective Communication: You have excellent written and verbal communication skills and can provide clear, accurate and practical legal advice, tailored to a range of audiences and delivered within short timeframes.
* Organisational Skills: Strong organisational and prioritisation skills, with the capacity to manage competing priorities, meet tight timeframes, and consistently deliver high‐quality outcomes in a fast‐paced, high‐volume legal environment while upholding integrity and public sector values.
