Mount Isa
AusAG Rural

Offer description

If you're ready to start your cattle career with a supportive team that values development and attitude, this is a fantastic first step into the industry.
* Incredible hands-on learning opportunity - genuine training in horsemanship, cattle handling, machinery operation and all-round station work.
* Diverse, practical duties - from mustering on horseback and bikes to yard work, fencing and machinery operation.
* Great lifestyle perks - single accommodation, meals provided, social scene and a supportive small crew environment.
Our client is a corporate-owned cattle station located approximately 20km north-east of Mount Isa, Queensland. This is not a massive station with a huge workforce - instead, there's a strong focus on individual development, skill-building and mentoring. Cattle numbers are manageable, and staff are given genuine opportunities to grow. The location offers access to an active rural social circuit including events such as campdrafts and rodeos in Mt Isa, Cloncurry and Julia Creek.

The successful candidates will report directly to the Station Managers and work closely within a small crew. This role is ideally suited to first-year station hands or those looking to break into the cattle industry who can already confidently ride a horse and a motorbike. If you're practical, energetic and willing to \"hop up and hook in,\" you'll thrive here. Immediate or upcoming start available by mutual agreement.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:
* Mustering cattle predominantly on horseback, with 2-wheel AG bikes and helicopter support (two main mustering rounds).
* Yard work and general cattle handling duties.
* Fencing, water point and general station maintenance.
* Assisting with machinery operation (with opportunity to learn dozer and grader work as required).
Selection Criteria:
* Confident and capable horse rider and motorbike operator (essential).
* Positive, can-do attitude with willingness to undertake all station tasks - including routine or physically demanding jobs.
* Ability to work well within a small team environment and contribute positively to station culture.
* Minimum provisional driver's licence (own vehicle preferred for days off).
Additional Particulars:
* Single accommodation provided (male or female).
* All meals supplied (self-serve breakfast).
* Bikes and horses provided - option to bring your own horse and tack if preferred.
* Dogs permitted (note: dogs are not used for cattle work).
* Company-supported horsemanship training and cattle handling schools.
* Social opportunities including local rodeos and campdrafts.
* Pay rate negotiable based on skill level.
* Standard 5-day week outside of mustering periods (may increase during busy rounds).
* Applications will be considered as they are received.
* This is a permanent position and not available to Working Holiday Visa Holders (Backpackers). Nor does our client offer sponsorship for overseas jobseekers.
