About the Role
We're looking for an organised and detail‑oriented professional to join our Governance team in a temporary role concluding in February 2027. In this position, you'll provide essential administrative support for Council and Committee Meetings, manage meeting systems, and maintain governance documentation to ensure compliance. You'll work closely with Councillors, Council Officers and external presenters to support high‑quality governance processes across the organisation.
Key responsibilities include:
* Preparing and publishing agendas, notices of meeting, and minutes
* Supporting Council Officers, Councillors, external presenters, and members of the public during meetings
* Maintaining meeting systems, templates, user databases and procedural documentation
* Training Officers on meeting protocols and agenda item preparation
* Updating and maintaining the City of Launceston's Management System, policies and procedures
* Managing key governance registers including Interests Registers, Seal Register, and Electoral Roll administration
About You
We are looking for someone who demonstrates alignment with Our Values and has the following skills, attributes and experience:
* Understanding of governance in a Local Government context
* Excellent customer service, written and verbal communication skills
* Above‑average proofreading ability and strong attention to detail
* Strong technical proficiency in Microsoft Word, Adobe, Excel and ability to learn audio‑streaming equipment
* Excellent minute‑taking accuracy and confidence to ask for clarification
* Ability to exercise initiative, judgement and discretion in a high‑pressure environment
* Certificate of Education or 3 years minimum relevant experience, plus highly proficient keyboard skills
About the Team
You'll join the Governance Team, a highly supportive group responsible for ensuring transparent decision‑making, accurate recordkeeping, and compliance with legislative and organisational requirements. The team works closely with Councillors, the Executive Leadership Team, Officers across the organisation, and members of the public to support the smooth running of Council Meetings, Committees and governance processes.
This role plays an essential part in maintaining high‑quality governance systems, enabling efficient meeting administration, and ensuring the integrity of the City of Launceston's Management System and statutory registers.
