Role Overview
This role sits within a well-established corporate finance team supporting a multi-entity Australian and New Zealand business with ongoing operational and project activity. The environment is hands‐on, commercially grounded, and suited to someone who wants real ownership of tax outcomes rather than narrow compliance exposure.
You'll work with a CFO who has a strong tax background and is highly engaged in mentoring and technical development. With significant project work underway and a growing finance function, this role offers genuine autonomy from day one and a clear pathway toward future tax leadership or management responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare and coordinate Australian and New Zealand corporate income tax returns with external tax advisors
* Review monthly BAS and IAS lodgements across multiple entities
* Manage GST return preparation and lodgement
* Prepare Australian FBT returns for all employing entities
* Prepare Australian and New Zealand tax effect accounting annually
* Maintain Australian and New Zealand tax fixed asset registers
* Calculate contractor payroll tax obligations
* Prepare the Taxable Payments Annual Report (TPAR)
* Maintain tax governance frameworks and documentation
* Prepare and post journals supporting tax and financial accounting outcomes
* Provide tax input into tenders, commercial proposals and pricing
* Assess tax implications of business structure changes
* Review new payroll pay codes from a tax compliance perspective
* Support tax decision‐making related to acquisitions, divestments and growth initiatives
* Contribute tax expertise to Finance and ERP system implementations
* Support month‐end financial accounting processes as required
* Assist with audit processes and external stakeholder queries
About You
* CA or CPA qualified (or near completion), ideally trained in a chartered accounting firm
* Experience across corporate tax, GST, FBT and compliance in Australian environments
* Exposure to or interest in New Zealand tax matters is advantageous
* Comfortable operating with autonomy and ownership of tax deliverables
* Strong technical foundation with the ability to apply tax commercially
* Looking for a first move from professional practice or an early-career industry tax role
* Motivated by long-term development and progression toward tax leadership or management
