Job Summary
Primary Location: NT – Robertson Barracks. Service Stream is recruiting Trades Assistants/Carpenters to support the Defence division under the PAS contract, delivering Property and Asset Services across South Australia and the Northern Territory.
About the Role
You will support qualified tradespeople by performing a variety of manual construction, maintenance, or industrial tasks across bases. Basic duties include measuring, cutting, assembling, installing materials, preparing and cleaning work areas, completing general maintenance tasks such as patching, painting, tiling and minor plumbing, loading and transporting materials, using hand and power tools under supervision, and carrying out general labouring duties such as lifting, digging and site clean‐up. Effective communication with team members and supervisors is essential.
Responsibilities
* Assist tradespeople with measuring, cutting, assembling, and installing materials.
* Prepare and clean work areas, ensuring tools and equipment are ready for use.
* Perform general maintenance tasks including patching, painting, tiling and minor plumbing.
* Load, transport and organise materials and supplies on site.
* Operate basic hand and power tools under supervision.
* Carry out general labouring duties such as lifting, digging and site clean‐up.
* Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
Qualifications and Skills
* Previous experience in a construction, maintenance or industrial environment.
* Hands‐on exposure to assisting qualified trades such as carpenters, electricians, plumbers or landscapers, or be a qualified carpenter.
* Familiarity with using basic hand and power tools.
* Experience performing manual labour tasks such as lifting, digging or site clean‐up.
* Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and work safely on active job sites.
* Experience working as part of a team in fast‐paced or physically demanding settings.
* White Card.
