About Us
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Senior Social Worker to join our supportive and dynamic team at Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Hunter Valley. You will be based at the High Street campus in Maitland. Parking is freely available at our core site; travel via fleet vehicles would be required to other parts of our Hunter Valley for clinical work, or across our LHD for consultative work or support and supervision of Social Work staff.
We work in a multidisciplinary team that supports each other to achieve recovery goals within complex presentations. Our model of care within HNELHD CAMHS supports dual clinician work to achieve effective family therapy interventions and support the continuous growth of clinicians. Within HNE CAMHS we are supported within our local team governance structure, the wider CAMHS network and Mental Health network. Clinical decisions, risk reviews and service improvement are achieved together; and the Level 4 Social Work position is one of the leaders with the team.
About The Role
CAMHS is a specialist mental health service that assesses and treats young people aged 0 – 17 years and their families/carers who are living in the HNE Local Health District. Young people referred to the service have complex and severe mental health problems that significantly impact most aspects of their functioning and development.
As a Senior Level 4 Social Worker within CAMHS you would balance direct clinical work and consultation support to clinicians within a multidisciplinary team. This clinical leadership occurs through education to colleagues, joint clinical work, or the support of team governance meetings.
You will also be part of the wider governance consultation for CAMHS, and for the Mental Health Social Work / Allied Health network in our LHD. You will support the development and growth of Social Work staff in the CAMHS network with other Social Work leadership. You will receive day-to-day management with the Hunter Valley / Manning CAMHS Team Leader and line management support from the CAMHS Service Manager. Supervision is provided within our service for individual supervision, and externally for specific therapeutic model supervision. Further therapy and leadership training and development can be supported through the Annual Performance Review process and bi-monthly accountability meetings.
Responsibilities
- Balance direct clinical work with consultation and education to multidisciplinary colleagues.
- Provide clinical leadership and participate in team governance meetings.
- Support governance, quality improvement, and service development within CAMHS and the LHD.
- Contribute to shared clinical decision making within a multidisciplinary team.

- Willingness to be part of a dynamic and energetic team that values collaboration, celebrates success, supports each other and focuses on psychological safety and wellbeing in the workplace.
Requirements
- Must hold at minimum a bachelor degree in social work which provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer.
