Job Description
How you'll make an impact
We're looking for a Housing Officer to join our Customer Services team. In this people-focused role, you'll provide professional tenancy management services to residents and prospective residents across Tasmania.
Working closely with colleagues in allocations, rent review, tenancy sustainment, community engagement, NDIS engagement and safeguarding, you'll play a key role in delivering end-to-end housing services.
Your work will support residents to sustain tenancies, understand their rights and responsibilities, and access safe and stable housing.
This role reports to the Housing Services Team Leader. We welcome applicants from community housing, public housing and private real estate who bring transferable tenancy experience.
Your role in action
Deliver quality tenancy management through clear, timely and respectful communication
Provide advice about tenant rights and responsibilities and support residents to understand their obligations
Work with residents to resolve neighbourhood or tenancy concerns and prevent future issues
Manage tenancies in line with the Residential Tenancy Act and program requirements, including SDA legislation
Identify tenancy risks early and work with internal teams to support tenancy sustainment
Conduct routine, ingoing and outgoing property inspections and maintain accurate documentation
Manage rent collection, arrears and tenancy debts in line with Housing Choices procedures
Maintain accurate and complete records in the tenancy management system
Build effective relationships with support providers, referral agencies and government stakeholders
Manage end-of-tenancy processes, including bond disbursement and debt recovery
Represent Housing Choices in external forums, including Tribunals or Court when required
Keep up to date with legislation, regulations and program requirements
Use reporting tools to monitor accuracy, compliance and performance
You are organised, supportive and confident working with people from diverse backgrounds. You communicate clearly, manage priorities well and bring a calm, solutions-focused approach to your work.
You will bring
Experience managing a tenancy portfolio in community housing, public housing or private real estate
Experience supporting residents through complex or challenging housing issues
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain accurate records
Confidence working with vulnerable or disadvantaged communities
Skills in Microsoft Office and report writing
Understanding of housing legislation, regulatory frameworks or a willingness to learn
You must also have
Working With Children and NDIS Worker Screening Checks (or the ability to obtain them)
Willingness to undertake employment screening
