Working in our Operations team, you'll be helping with the maintenance and presentation of one of our unique open spaces in Melbourne's South East. The Role
We are seeking an experienced Fleet Maintenance Coordinator to join the team at Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (SMCT). In this newly created role, you will be responsible for ensuring our fleet vehicles and specialised equipment are maintained to the highest standard, optimising performance, safety and reliability.
You'll coordinate preventative and reactive maintenance schedules, work closely with contractors and suppliers and collaborate with the Manager of Assets to support long-term fleet planning. Your hands-on expertise and problem-solving skills will help extend the life of our fleet assets while keeping operations running smoothly.
In This Role, You Will
* Coordinate and schedule all preventative maintenance services for fleet vehicles and specialised equipment.
* Manage reactive repairs, including mechanical breakdowns and urgent maintenance needs.
* Ensure compliance with all safety, inspection and regulatory requirements.
* Maintain an accurate asset register and monitor vehicle and equipment life cycles.
* Liaise with external contractors and suppliers for parts, repairs and services.
* Maintain detailed repair and service records for all fleet assets.
* Monitor maintenance costs while ensuring optimal performance and safety.
* Develop regular maintenance schedules and identify upcoming servicing needs.
* Work closely with the Manager of Assets to support lifecycle management and fleet planning.
* Ensure fleet vehicles meet all legal safety and operational requirements.
* Build effective working relationships with contractors and internal stakeholders.
* Report regularly on fleet performance, downtime and maintenance activities.
Your Profile
You are a hands-on and organised maintenance professional with a strong mechanical background and a keen eye for detail. You thrive in dynamic environments where preventative planning, problem-solving and responsiveness are key to keeping operations running smoothly. Your ability to coordinate effectively with both internal teams and external contractors ensures that fleet assets remain safe, compliant and efficient.
* Solid understanding of mechanical systems in vehicles and specialised equipment.
* Hands-on experience with vehicle and equipment servicing, maintenance and repairs.
* Proficiency with maintenance management software (e.g., CMMS) and Microsoft Office.
* Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to quickly address mechanical issues.
* Excellent organisational skills for scheduling, tracking and coordinating servicing.
* Strong attention to detail for maintaining accurate records and compliance documentation.
* Clear communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work well with contractors, drivers and internal teams.
* Experience managing maintenance budgets and cost-effective solutions.
* Flexible and responsive approach to urgent maintenance needs and breakdowns.
* Knowledge of safety standards, regulations and vehicle compliance requirements.
* Technical understanding of mechanical, electrical and HVAC systems.
* Relevant qualifications or certification in mechanical or maintenance-related fields is highly regarded.
