Role

As the successful applicant you will form an integral part of the Student Support Team, assisting in the day-to-day running of Student Support and ensuring an effective and responsive service for students. This includes supporting individuals and groups of students with mental health, behavioural, social and emotional support needs on a daily basis.

The Student Support Officer will assist in the development and introduction of systems, intervention strategies and alternative programs that provide a responsive and effective support service for students, family members and staff. You will assist with the development and running of small-group social and emotional learning and wellbeing programmes. The Officer will develop supportive links between the student, family, school staff and other appropriate agencies in the community, and will assist with the implementation of a range of school attendance strategies, attend and provide supporting information to team meetings, case conferences and other intervention processes. The Officer will undertake a wide range of administrative and student-focused support services within the school, maintain information and record systems and collate and prepare information used in case conferences and to develop strategies and student support programmes. The Officer will also assist the college Executive and Leadership Team in crisis response strategies, as required.

Ideal Applicant

As the successful applicant you will ideally have a friendly, positive and caring attitude and a flair for working with young people to promote excellence within our school. With your exceptional interpersonal skills you will ideally develop relationships across the school and wider community, maintain professional links between the student, the family, the school and other appropriate agencies in the community, whilst maintaining confidentiality. The successful applicant will ideally be highly organised and can prioritise tasks, be reliable, flexible and able to meet deadlines at a fast pace with competing demands showing attention to detail. You should possess strong computer skills using Microsoft Office and Department of Education databases, and be able to generate statistical, academic and Centrelink reports, coordinate administrative tasks for the student services section. Previous experience with youth mental health, resilience programmes, Youth Mental Health First Aid, Gatekeeper or Trauma training would be highly desirable.

Eligibility
* Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
* Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start.
* Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.
