We are seeking a caring, motivated and experienced Practice Nurse to join a busy general practice in Canberra.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care.
Position: Practice Nurse
Reporting to: Practice Manager & clinical team leaders
Key Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive nursing support: triage, assessment, and ongoing care for patients.
Administer immunisations (adult and childhood), and manage vaccine cold-chain and storage according to regulatory standards.
Perform clinical procedures such as wound management and dressing changes; assist GPs with minor procedures; take vital signs; collect pathology specimens; perform ECGs, spirometry or other relevant diagnostic tests if trained.
Support chronic disease management and health assessments: help develop and implement management plans for conditions such as diabetes, asthma, cardiovascular disease; coordinate recalls, follow-ups and patient education.
Provide preventive health services and health education: lifestyle counselling, health promotion, screening, and supporting wellbeing across all age groups, including recalls and reminders for routine or scheduled care.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records using clinical software; manage recalls/reminders and follow-up processes; ensure compliance with privacy, workplace health & safety and practice accreditation standards.
Work as part of a team, liaising with GPs, allied health professionals, and external services to coordinate holistic patient care, and act as a patient advocate when required.
Support quality improvement, risk management, infection control, and contribute to practice protocols and standards to ensure efficient, safe and high-quality care.
Required Qualifications & Attributes:
Current registration as a Registered Nurse or Enrolled Nurse with the relevant Australian regulatory body (e.g. AHPRA)
Previous experience in general practice, primary care, or similar clinical settings (preferred) or willingness to learn in a supportive team environment
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with commitment to culturally sensitive, patient-centred care and confidentiality.
Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, ability to manage clinical documentation and coordinate care plans, recalls and follow-ups.
Competence in immunisation administration and management (including cold-chain), basic clinical procedures (wound care, pathology sample collection), and patient education / health promotion.
Commitment to ongoing professional development and working as part of a collaborative multi-disciplinary team.
