Today, Roma is one of the largest allergen free manufacturers in the Southern Hemisphere. Roma’s in-house product development and broad manufacturing capabilities are vertically-integrated. With production facilities based in Carrum Downs, Victoria, the company manufactures products across baking, biscuits, breakfast, snacking, pasta & dessert categories in a specialised, allergen free facility with ample capacities for growth.
Roma produce company-owned Brands – Orgran, Buontempo, Pasta Roma!, Spliits & Freemills – as well as delivering products worldwide across the retail, foodservice & industrial channels.
Role
The Innovation Technologist reports to the Sales and Marketing Manager and partners with the commercial and production teams to bring to life food products that are consumer preferred. Innovation is a core value at Roma Food Products, and the Innovation Technologist plays a leading role in formulating, validating, commercialising, and executing the NPD and product change agenda. This is a fixed term contract with the potential to continue at Roma.
Skills Required
* Partner with the commercial team to bring the consumers and customers needs and requirements to life through our product innovation.
* Partner with the production, quality, and finance teams to align on the requirements to deliver the product agenda.
* Plan, coordinate and manage new product development projects to meet market and company needs.
* Work on required briefs and desired outcomes to support the validation of our consumer offer.
* Comprehensively test new ideas, equipment, formulations, and production methods to improve existing products.
* Apply sound quality assurance principles to new developments.
* Undertake research in support of the NPD and commercial planning process to support the continued flow of product improvements.
* Collect, evaluate, and interpret data and write reports detailing trial results and proposed solutions to reach or exceed agreed benchmarks.
* Test all new products / formulations, prior to commercial launch, for any allergen and nutritional claims made and authorise packaging prior to printing.
* Maintain good records for all decisions and outcomes.
* Verification of internal and customer product specifications, supplier PIFs for new raw materials and existing finished products.
* Review and update product artwork and labelling of new and existing products.
* Carry out daily product sensory tasting panels and seek opportunities for continuous improvement of existing and new products.
Qualifications:
To be considered for this opportunity you must have:
Tertiary qualification in Food Science, Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
A minimum of 2 years’ experience in NPD projects within food manufacturing.
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write technical reports.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret data and consumer data testing.
