At the University of Southern Queensland, we are committed to strengthening quality and excellence in the student experience through a coordinated, whole of university approach to student success. Join a high-performing and collaborative assessment support team at the heart of the University’s student success agenda. As an Assessment Advisor, you will play a key role in delivering responsive, student-centred undergraduate and postgraduate assessment and examination services across the academic lifecycle within a dynamic, high-volume environment.

This is a non-teaching professional opportunity suited to applicants with strong administrative capability, sound judgement, and experience coaching staff and coordinating workloads within complex service environments. If you are motivated by operational leadership, service excellence and making a tangible impact on student success, this role offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully within a collaborative and purpose-driven team.

Who you are

You thrive in a fast paced, student-centred environment and bring resilience, empathy, and strong attention to detail to your work. You are confident supporting students who may be experiencing distress or balancing competing study, work, and life commitments, applying trauma informed and culturally aware practices with professionalism and care.

You collaborate effectively with Professional and Academic staff, build trust quickly, and provide clear, policy aligned and legislation informed advice to ensure consistent assessment processes. You are experienced in supervising and supporting colleagues, offering guidance across complex tasks and strengthening the team capability to meet the volume and complexity of assessment operations, particularly during peak periods.

You also bring expertise in process documentation, reporting and continuous improvement, and take pride in delivering accurate, timely, coordinated services as part of Academic Services – Learning and Teaching Futures, contributing directly to a high-quality student experience.

What you’ll do

As Assessment Advisor, you will play a key role in safeguarding the integrity, consistency and quality of the University’s centralised assessment and examination services that support students throughout their academic journey. Your work will directly support student progression and success, ensuring fair, compliant and student-focused processes across the academic lifecycle. Working within a high-volume, time-critical environment, you will:

* Provide day-to-day operational oversight of assessment and examination activities, coordinating workflows, allocating tasks and supporting service continuity during peak periods while also supporting operational activities such as process documentation, training, and routine reporting.
* Deliver personalised, student-centred support across a range of assessment processes and oversee assessment extensions and deferrals using a case management approach, handling complex cases and referrals.
* Support students experiencing distress by acting as an escalation point and guiding staff, applying de-escalation strategies and facilitating referrals to appropriate support services, while ensuring consistent, policy aligned outcomes.
* Perform and oversee complex administrative and system tasks relating to examinations, invigilation, grade finalisation, review of grades, and customised assessment processes, ensuring equitable and inclusive student experiences.
* Collaborate with academic staff, technical teams, and support areas to troubleshoot issues while confidently operating digital assessment systems, monitoring performance, identifying issues, and escalating appropriately.
* Participate in extended operating hours during peak assessment periods, including evenings, weekends, public holidays, and closure periods, to meet critical operational needs.

What will help you succeed

In addition to relevant qualifications and experience, you will bring:

* Demonstrated experience supervising staff, coordinating workflows and providing clear direction during peak operational periods. You are confident strengthening team capability, supporting colleagues through complex tasks and maintaining momentum in a high-volume environment.
* The ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure, balancing competing priorities while maintaining attention to detail and meeting critical deadlines.
* Exceptional communication, problem solving, and administrative skills, which will enable you to exercise sound judgment when managing sensitive or complex cases.
* As a non-teaching professional role, confidence working with systems, data, digital processes and have experience using reporting frameworks relevant to assessment and examinations.

Prior experience in the administrative support of assessment extensions, examinations, or broader student services functions would be highly regarded.
