Primary objective
Under the guidance of the Berrimah Farm Science Precinct (BFSP) Facilities Manager, conduct grounds maintenance of BFSP
and other departmental facilities and support the research farms in the Darwin Rural area. Assist in the planning of new
landscaping projects at BFSP.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Carry out mowing, edging, whipper snipping, weeding, and cleaning of paths and all lawn areas regularly.
2. Implement the watering of all trees and shrubs, ensuring water wastage is kept to a minimum by regularly inspecting and
maintaining all watering systems and repair any leakages as soon as possible.
3. Conduct weed control using chemical sprayers in all areas, and perform routine care, pruning and maintenance of trees,
shrubs and garden beds.
4. Schedule ongoing care and maintenance of all gardening machinery and tools ensuring all faulty equipment is repaired
or replaced promptly.
5. Schedule maintenance of the ride-on mowers, small tractor, all-terrain vehicle and an electric forklift ensuring that these
are maintained in a clean and serviceable condition and all defects are reported promptly.
6. Ensure all footpaths, entry points and paved/cement areas are kept clean and tidy by regularly air blowing and high-
pressure hose washing of paths, external building walls and windows.
7. Comply with service quality standards, work health and safety (WHS) policies and procedures, including Australian
Standards for garden equipment, relevant machinery, all-terrain vehicle and an electric forklift.
8. Foster a positive workplace culture through collaborative and positive engagement with BFSP staff.
9. Participate in biosecurity emergency response activities as required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills, including basic literacy and numeracy skills.
2. Proven ability to adapt to change and respond positively to challenges in a dynamic work environment.
3. Demonstrated capacity to safely undertake a variety of manual handling tasks, gardening, grounds maintenance and
landscaping.
4. Sound knowledge of, and commitment to, relevant Work Health and Safety (WHS) policies, procedures, and guidelines.
5. Ability to effectively organise, prioritise, and manage own workload with minimal supervision.
6. Proven ability to interact respectfully and effectively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and the ability to
work collaboratively within a team environment as well as independently.
7. Hold a current ChemCert or equivalent certification for the safe use of chemicals.
8. Possession of a current Northern Territory Driver's Licence (manual) with the ability to competently tow trailers.
Desirable
1. Experience or willingness to learn small engine maintenance.
2. A current Forklift licence or the ability to obtain one.
