About the team
This role is an exciting opportunity to work within the Plumbing Compliance Unit on all aspects of regulation of plumbing installations across NSW with a focus on Sydney, Wollongong, and the Hunter regions. The unit is responsible for industry compliance within the legislative provisions of the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2011 and Home Building Act 1989 including relevant codes and standards applicable to plumbing and drainage work. A key focus of the Unit is delivering on Building Commission NSW strategic agenda and priorities whilst working closely with other specialist compliance teams to deliver a risk‐based compliance approach and the required customer‐focused outcomes and industry compliance. Ongoing engagement with industry, associations and other Government agencies and providing technical oversight of the industry and contributing to the ongoing development of codes and standards falls within the responsibility of the unit.
Responsibilities
* Responsible for industry compliance to the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2011 and Home Building Act 1989.
* Reviewing complex plumbing documentation to ensure compliance to the relevant codes and standards.
* Provide independent expert plumbing advice to internal and external customers.
* Provide information and advice to industry ensuring compliance to relevant codes and standards.
* Prepare, present and review evidence, reports and submissions to make appropriate recommendations in accordance with legislative requirements, regulations and delegated authorities where non‐compliance is detected.
* Undertake and review complex documentation provided by industry to ensure compliance in line with legislation, regulation and policies.
* Develop and maintain specialist regulatory knowledge and skills and act as a subject matter expert for managers and team members.
* Contribute to the development, mentoring and coaching of team members on technical matters.
Qualifications and Experience
* Extensive experience and knowledge of the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2011, the Plumbing Code of Australia and applicable Australian Standards relevant to plumbing and drainage sector.
* Ability to plan and deliver a diverse range of compliance functions and services to align with organisational outcomes ensuring competence in the plumbing sector in NSW.
* Proven ability to exercise sound judgement in working in a senior role including the provision of advice on management issues and high‐level support.
* Ability to work in collaboration with other government agencies and key industry stakeholders.
* Demonstrated ability to work with experts within the building and construction sector to deliver regulatory outcomes in the sector.
* Qualifications in the building and construction related discipline such as plumbing, drainage and gas‐fitters.
* Certificate IV in Government Investigations or preparedness to undertake an identical or similar employee‐sponsored programme.
* Current NSW Driver's licence.
