Laboratory Technician - Part Time Damascus College is seeking an enthusiastic and highly organised Science Laboratory Technician to support the delivery of high-quality science teaching and learning across our Science Learning Area.
Working closely with the Learning Area Leader - Science and the wider Science team, this role plays a vital part in ensuring safe, engaging and well prepared practical learning experiences for students.
The Science Laboratory Technician is responsible for the preparation, maintenance and coordination of materials, equipment and resources required for science classes, while ensuring compliance with relevant safety guidelines and standards.
Key responsibilities include: Preparing materials, stock, solutions, specimens and apparatus for practical classes and demonstrations.
Keeping laboratory spaces organised, safe and ready for learning.
Ensure chemicals and equipment are labelled and stored according to safety standards.
Ensure students follow safety procedures and use required PPE.
Conduct Risk Assessments for preparation tasks and assist teachers with classroom risk assessments.
Key Selection Criteria Post secondary qualifications in science and/or Laboratory Technician qualifications.
Experience in a school or analytical laboratory, including the application of technical/scientific processes.
Strong understanding of Work Health and Safety practices, risk assessments and safety standards in a science environment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work both collaboratively and independently, take initiative, and manage competing deadlines.
Experience using ICT systems for inventory management, purchasing and risk assessment (e.g., RiskAssess).
