Principal Disciplinary Officer
Grade: Clerk Grade 9/10 | Employment Type: Ongoing, Full-Time | Salary Range: $129,464 - $142,665 per annum plus superannuation | Location: Gosford/Wollongong/Parramatta (attendance required in Parramatta once per week; overall office attendance 2-3 days per week)
Overview
An exciting opportunity within NSW Fair Trading's Disciplinary Action Unit for a Principal Disciplinary Officer. This role is suitable for a lawyer, senior policy officer or an individual with deep skills in statutory analysis and drafting, responsible for initiating and concluding disciplinary proceedings under legislation administered by NSW Fair Trading.
Responsibilities
* Review briefs of evidence, draft Notices to Show Cause and related documentation.
* Review Notice to Show Cause submissions and draft Disciplinary Action Decisions.
* Provide instructions to legal officers and counsel on appeals to the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal and other courts/tribunals, including reviewing section 58 documents, written submissions and other relevant evidence.
* Attend and contribute to internal working groups on policy development and legislative changes impacting the Disciplinary Action Unit.
* Compile information for and draft contributions to ministerial requests for information, house folder notes, briefing notes, media requests, among others.
* Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including investigators, inspectors, legal officers, counsel and the executive.
* Supervise and manage a small team.
Qualifications
* Legal qualifications or equivalent experience with the ability to understand and apply legislation.
* Experience reviewing investigation reports and evidence.
* Excellent drafting skills with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
* Knowledge of procedural fairness and natural justice principles.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and Adobe products.
