About the role
As a key planning engineer for the Water and Wastewater Unit, this role is responsible for leading water and wastewater network modelling, strategic investigations and infrastructure planning across Tweed Shire. You will provide specialist engineering advice to internal stakeholders and guide infrastructure planning through hydraulic modelling, technical investigations and development of engineering options. The role plays a key part in developing the 4, 10 and 30-year capital works strategies to ensure our water and wastewater systems meet community, environmental and regulatory expectations. Working closely with operations teams, design engineers, development engineers and consultants, you will translate technical analysis into practical solutions, concept designs and capital programs that support the sustainable growth of the Tweed region. This position also supervises a small team of engineers and technical officers to assist in technical investigations related to infrastructure planning.

Qualifications and experience
* Degree-qualified Civil Engineer with extensive experience in water and wastewater planning and design
* Proven ability to analyse complex systems, solve problems creatively, and deliver practical engineering solutions
* Strong technical capability in hydraulic modelling, GIS, and data-driven assessment
* Exceptional communicator who can produce high-quality reports and collaborate effectively with stakeholders
* Skilled in developing capital programs, managing projects and consultants, and leading team performance

Where it's located
This position is based in Tweed Heads, and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
