Practice Information
This Medical Centre is a 5-doctor practice. They are a mixed private and bulk billing practice. It has been operating for over 13 years with modern medical equipment and state of the art technology. The Practice Principal is an adjunct JCU lecturer, PEP tutor and an accredited GMT registrar training supervisor. They are a training practice with dedicated protected teaching sessions once a week with TheirGPs.
The clinic is in the centre of the town, 1.5 km from the hospital; the main shopping centre is 2 km away. They have a pathology and a dental clinic beside the clinic. They also have visiting allied health including Tele-Psychologist/Psychiatrist, Exercise Physiologist, Diabetic Educator, Gynaecologist, Optometrist, Mental health nurse and Audiologist who see patients at the clinic. A full-time Practice Manager is on site every day. The clinic has 4 nurses who assist the doctors with the Chronic disease clinic. There is a dedicated Skin Clinic with an HD MoleMax. They are also an allocated Covid vaccination clinic. Main clientele include young and retiree workers and travellers; the Bruce Highway crosses the township. They offer family medicine covering broad general practice, occupational health, and the right to private practice at Sarina Hospital. Referrals are made to the base hospital. The practice is equipped for Telehealth Conferences with a dedicated room for telehealth.
Sarina is a close-knit community with strong community support and good relationships between doctors and patients. Occasional health awareness seminars are held. Sarina has a small rural hospital with 16 beds and an aged care facility. Most referrals are managed by Mackay Base Hospital and private hospitals in the region. The practice has frequent visiting specialists and a pathology collection centre and a full-time Medical Imaging Centre including ultrasound/echo in Sarina. Sarina is supported by NQPHN, which assists GPs through allied health, coordination of CME workshops, and meetings.
About Sarina: it is a rural town with a population of approximately 15,000, located 35 km south of Mackay. It is near several beaches and near the Great Barrier Reef access. The town has a public high school, a state and catholic primary school, and family day-care services.
Position Description
The practice is offering a full-time GP position from a single practice location remunerated as a percentage of the doctor’s gross billings. The doctor works weekday morning and afternoon sessions (nominally 8 hours per day) with a weekday afternoon off duty optional; a Saturday 1:4 rotation is possible.
Some procedural skills such as minor operations (skin excisions, curettes, biopsies) are advantageous but not required; supervision and training will be provided. The practice also looks after nursing home and palliative care patients. Patient load is approximately 150 per week.
After Hours: The clinic opens on Saturdays; doctors work a 1:4 rotation on Saturdays. Very minimal after-hours load as Sarina Hospital handles after-hours emergencies.
