About the Mint

The Royal Australian Mint is a small government agency working within the Commonwealth Government Portfolio of the Treasury. The Mint is a non-corporate Commonwealth Entity and is listed under the Public Governance Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act). The Mint is also covered by the Public Service Act 1999 (Cth) (PS Act).

The Mint offers some of the most unique career opportunities within the public service, including roles such as:

* Coin making – polishing, laser frosting, 3D engraving, Physical Vapour Deposition hard coating, chrome plating, dies inspection and collars manufacture.
* Machinery – operate and maintain minting critical machines.
* Coin Sculpting – design coins, medals, medallions, and token, etc.
* Graphic Design – design coin packaging materials, exhibition graphics, etc.
* Engineering – technical support and manufacturing operations.

About the Branch

The Information and Security Branch coordinate the Information Communication Technology, Records Management, Security and Fraud services to support the Mint, enabling the organisation to produce circulating coins, preserve the National Coin Collection and tell the stories of Australia by recognising significant anniversaries, events, and organisations through coins.

About the Role

The Security Adviser is responsible for supporting the physical and personnel security requirements of the Royal Australian Mint (Mint). The position assists with the administration of security policies and procedures; ensuring compliance with government security requirements and standards, and facilitating the effective management of security within the Mint including public areas. The position will assist in security investigations, Security Risk Assessments, auditing of the National Coin Collection, transfer of high value Mint assets and provides guidance to the Mint contracted Security Guards.

The key duties of the position include:

1. Applying the physical and personnel security requirements of the Australian Government's Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF), and the additional protective security requirements of the Mint.

2. Ensuring effective security administration across the Mint including in the Production Secure Zone, the Mint gallery, shop and main foyer, and at internal and external events.

3. Coordinating the transfer of Mint assets to and from the Mint gallery, shop, main foyer and external exhibition locations.

4. Auditing and maintaining records of audits of the National Coin Collection.

5. Undertaking moderately complex Security Risk Assessments and Security Incident Investigations.

6. Liaising and negotiating with internal and external stakeholders, including providing guidance and advice on physical and personnel security matters.

7. Monitoring the work of and supporting the training of contracted Security Guards.

8. Assisting in the development and implementation of security policies and procedures in accordance with the PSPF.

9. Assisting the Agency Security Officer with the personnel security requirements of Mint staff and contractors including:

a. processing security clearances through AGSVA;

b. undertaking pre-employment screening; and

c. managing building access.

10. Assisting in the management of Mint issued keys, security containers, alarm systems, access control systems, CCTV systems and door furniture.

Eligibility

Qualifications

A qualification in Security or Risk Management or the ability to obtain is highly desirable.

A Certificate IV in Government investigations or the ability to obtain is highly desirable.

Security

This position requires a Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
