Senior medical officer paediatric interventional neuroradiologist

Provide high-level specialist Paediatric interventional neuroradiology (INR) within a tertiary setting to paediatric patients ensuring high quality, safe and family centred care within CHQ HHS as well as for other affiliated facilities. General Interventional Radiology (IR) services may also be provided as per service demand.

Medical Imaging and Nuclear Medicine at QCH provides a range of services including X-ray, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine and Interventional Radiology. Services are provided to both inpatients and outpatients as well as to the QCH Emergency Department and Mater Health Services. Multiple streams work within MINM including Medical, Nursing, Health Professionals (HP), Administration and Medical Imaging Assistants.

Clinical Practice

* Provide interventional neuroradiology (INR) and general interventional radiology (IR) services as per service demand.
* Help arrange and attend outpatient clinics.
* For applicants with a Paediatric Radiology Fellowship – undertake a full range of tertiary paediatric radiologist clinical duties including diagnostic reporting of MRI, CT, Ultrasound and x-ray as well as performing and reporting fluoroscopic procedures.
* Deliver high quality direct patient care, liaise with other units and referring hospitals, maintain appropriate record keeping and confidentiality as well as obtaining and documenting consent.
* Contribute to out-of-hours on-call services.
* Actively contribute to the activities of Medical Imaging and Nuclear Medicine, the hospital and health service and the professional community.
* Participate in clinical governance activities including audit and peer review, monitoring of processes and outcomes of care.
* Participate in the delivery of contemporary, evidence-based, multidisciplinary models of care, inclusive of inpatient, outpatient, outreach and tele-health.
* Actively promote and model family centred care principles and practices in the delivery of services. Involve consumers in design and evaluation of services.

Communication / Team Participation

* Provide ethical decision-making as well as effective issues management and communication in the achievement of organisational goals; ensuring issues are resolved effectively and in a timely manner.
* Provide effective and timely communication and consultation processes within the service, to referring clinicians from QCH and other health services as well as with patients and their families.
* Actively participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team to foster and promote an environment of participation and collaboration for service development, improvement and innovations.

Leadership

* Provide professional leadership, training, education and supervision to junior staff within Medical Imaging and Nuclear Medicine in line with CHQ HHS and relevant professional and regulatory bodies.
* Participate in performance appraisal and staff development processes within the service.
* Actively contribute to a positive workplace culture within MINM, which encourages and recognises high performance, builds leadership capabilities and supports staff to maximise their health and wellbeing.

Quality and Safety

* Ensure compliance with contemporary healthcare safety and quality standards and participate in CHQ HHS assurance processes including Accreditation.
* Model a 'just' approach to staff, promoting open and honest identification of hazards and incidents, and taking action to address quality and safety gaps.
* Participate in relevant peer service benchmarking and use relevant data to drive continuous improvement.
* Actively engage in early identification and resolution of patient/family and staff complaints using open disclosure principles.
* Help ensure evidence-based standards for inpatient, emergency and outpatient report turn around times are maintained as well as a radiologist-radiologist peer review process.
* Maintain established standards of radiation hygiene and protection in all aspects of your work. Comply with the Radioactive Safety Act 1999, the Radiation Safety Regulation 2010 and the Departmental Radiation Safety and Protection Plan.
* Actively contribute to the delivery on the CHQ HHS Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Strategy.
* Minimise unjustified variation in care and drive increased reliability and consistency of clinical services through the use of standard operating procedures, procedures, care pathways, and appropriate training, assessment and coaching of staff.

* Participate in both formal and informal departmental education activities such as research.
* Use research evidence to improve practice and care outcomes.
