THE ROLE
The Disability Justice Coordinator supports people who have a disability and are involved in the criminal justice system. They assess and coordinate forensic disability supports for a forensic disability client based on their needs, risks and goals and advocate for any other support they require through other universal service systems. The coordinator helps clients understand the court process, conditions of bail, parole and/or their orders and coordinates access to interventions to reduce their risk of reoffending and behaviours of concern that increase that risk, improve their quality of life and support community safety.
The coordinator seeks to maximise the forensic disability client's access to the NDIS through advocacy and liaison with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), as well as secondary consultation with NDIS service providers to enable the person's forensic disability needs to be appropriately addressed.
