WE ARE SEEKING COOK/HOUSEBOAT HOST
Murray River Trails is seeking experienced guides for our walking season beginning March 2026, our tenth walking season A Great Walk of Australia, we are seeking hosts to welcome guests to our houseboat accommodation and prepare high quality meals with attention to detail.
The Cook/Houseboat Host is responsible for all food preparation on our 4 day, 3 night Murray River Walk tours. You don't need formal qualifications as a Chef or Cook, but you do need experience in food preparation, cooking and a passion for food and high attention to detail. This role would suit someone who has cook experience, worked in kitchens/catering doing food preparation roles or a avid home cook who can convey their passion and skills in their application.
About us - Murray River Trails
Murray River Trails are an established Award-Winning Tour Company operating immersive multi day river journeys from our 5 star low impact houseboat. Tours depart from Renmark and journey along one of the most beautiful sections of river country in South Australia.
We are seeking guides who are able to present restaurant quality meals and describe our local food and wine to guests over our 4 day, 3 night Murray River Walk tours.
Tour accommodation is a 5-star houseboat, running on renewable energy with 52 solar panels which means it has a low impact on the environment we travel through.
The Murray River Walk tour season operates from April to October, with training beginning in March 2026.
We provide training materials including a comprehensive recipe book and manuals describing key local products.

* A passion for creating delicious, high-quality dishes
* Experience cooking a range of food items and using kitchen equipment
* Friendly, professional, and positive approach when communicating with guests and other guides
* Exceptional organisational and time management skills
* Have exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of guests and team members
Speaking and Written Skills
* As communication is essential, you must have fluent English
* Must have current Australian work visa
Tasks & responsibilities
* Prepare and serve high quality meals
* Present dishes with a high attention to detail
* Describe local products and native Australian ingredients (bushfoods)
* Manage guest experience and expectations
* Safely operate tender boats with guests on board
* Must be willing to stay overnight on tours – Monday to Thursday
Qualifications & experience
Must have or be willing to obtain:
* Food service experience
* First aid and CPR
* Driver's license
* Food safety certificate
* Responsible service of alcohol
* Boat license (we provide training in boat driving)
Benefits
Included in the wage packages are ALL meals, Wi-Fi and ensuite accommodation.
Based in Renmark, SA, Australia, a 3 hour drive from Adelaide or 1.5 hours from Mildura (Victoria)
Part-time fix term contract
Pay ranges from $1300 to $1500 per 4 Day 3 night tour
