OverviewHarry Perkins Institute of Medical Research – Nedlands WA Genomics WA is seeking a hands-on and innovative Scientific Officer – New Technologies to join our team. This role is based at our state-of-the-art Genomics WA laboratories in Nedlands and will contribute to the development and implementation of new spatial transcriptomics workflows and sequencing technologies while supporting the delivery of genomics services to the research community. The position is full time on a maximum term contract of three years. About this role Reporting to the Technical Manager, Genomics WA, this role will play a key part in implementing upstream tissue preparation workflows for spatial transcriptomics and supporting the implementation of new sequencing platforms, supporting lab operations, and ensuring ISO and NATA accreditation standards are met. Responsibilities Developing and implementing upstream tissue preparation workflows for spatial transcriptomics services, including tissue sectioning, staining and imaging Supporting the day-to-day services of the wet lab team including sequencing and library preparation for spatial transcriptomics, RNA, DNA and single cell workflows Supporting accreditation processes and maintaining ISO/NATA-compliant documentation and laboratory records Training team members on new workflows and ensuring consistent laboratory practices Liaising with research clients and collaborators to deliver tailored spatial transcriptomics services Deliver services for library preparation and emerging sequencing platforms Contributing to lab operations and future service planning Develop SOPs and worksheets for new genomics workflows Contribute to planning and development of future genomics service capabilities This role would suit someone with strong molecular and histology skills, a collaborative mindset, and a drive to be at the forefront of genomic technology. To be successful in this role, you'll have: A tertiary qualification (Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD) in a relevant scientific field Experience working in a histology laboratory environment, including tissue block preparation, staining and imaging Strong understanding of next generation sequencing (NGS) and genomics technologies Demonstrated ability to write and follow SOPs Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping skills Strong communication and teamwork capabilities If you really want to stand out, tell us about your: Skills and experience in tissue block preparation, staining and imaging Knowledge of library preparations, next generation sequencing and spatial transcriptomics If this sounds like the right fit, we can offer you: Flexible working options A supportive and passionate team The opportunity to make a positive impact in a community-focused organisation with global reach The ability to salary package up to $18,550 annually, meaning you can legitimately pay less tax and increase your tax-home pay Generous leave benefits, including: 3 days paid extra leave at the end of the year Up to 16 weeks paid parental leave 2 days of paid cultural and community engagement leave Are you ready to make a difference?
