The Opportunity
We're seeking an experienced and detail-driven Senior Payroll Specialist to join our Finance team on a part-time basis (0.8 FTE).
In this newly created and business-critical role, you'll lead the accurate and compliant delivery of fortnightly payroll for over 350 employees, provide expert advice, and play a key role in reporting, auditing, and compliance activities.
In this newly created and business-critical role, you'll report to the Payroll Manager and be responsible for the accurate and compliant delivery of fortnightly and monthly payroll for over 350 employees. This includes maintaining payroll records, interpreting and processing a range of inputs (such as leave and timesheets), resolving complex payroll queries, and supporting reporting, auditing, and compliance activities.
You'll work closely with both Finance and People & Culture to ensure data integrity and process efficiency across the employee lifecycle. As this is a new position, there may also be opportunities to contribute to payroll system improvements, process refinement, and project.
This role is best suited to someone who thrives in a structured environment, brings sound judgment and a meticulous approach to their work.
Key responsibilities include:
* Deliver accurate and compliant end-to-end payroll for 350+ employees
* Interpret and apply modern awards, enterprise agreements, and employment contracts to ensure correct payment outcomes.
* Manage complex calculations including termination payments, back pay, allowances, and leave liabilities.
* Act as a key contact for payroll and timekeeping systems (e.g. Employment Hero), ensuring data integrity and process optimisation.
* Support payroll-related audits, reporting, and reconciliations, including statutory reporting (e.g. PAYG, superannuation, STP).
* Respond to payroll queries with a high level of professionalism and clarity, providing accurate advice to employees and managers.
* Work collaboratively with Finance and People & Culture to continuously improve payroll processes
You'll be part of a small, collaborative team where your contribution is valued and your work makes a real difference to the employee experience.
About You
* Minimum of 5 years' experience in Payroll Officer or Senior Payroll Specialist role
* Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation. Superannuation, taxation and award interpretation.
* Intermediate Excel skills and experience using payroll systems (e.g., Employment Hero or similar)
* Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
* Excellent time management, organisational, and communication skills
* Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion
* Willingness to learn and follow established processes.
* Experience in a healthcare or a multi-site environment is highly desirable
