Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the Staff Specialist position in the Western Sydney Local Health District. This position will be primarily located at Westmead Hospital within the Department of Surgical Oncology.

The successful applicant will possess a FRACS in General Surgery and have completed a fellowship in Surgical Oncology. They should be experienced in the management of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers, soft tissue sarcoma and thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal conditions. They should be familiar with working in a multidisciplinary environment. They should demonstrate an interest in supervising surgical trainees and have a track record in research. They should be able to participate in the Acute Surgery Unit on-call roster.

The Department of Surgical Oncology Westmead Hospital manages patients with melanoma, non-melanoma skin cancers, benign and malignant soft tissue tumours, thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal conditions. It runs a busy outpatient service in the Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre. Consultants also participate in the Acute Surgery Unit on-call roster. The Department consists of consultants, a Fellow, SET registrar, SRMO and JMO. Members of the Department work in a multidisciplinary setting in close association with other medical and surgical specialties.

Applicants must have Australian Fellowship/Specialist Registration at time of applying.

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.

Essential Requirements for Appointment

1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in General Surgery or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license (if applicable).

2. Sound clinical knowledge in Surgical Oncology demonstrated by completion of a fellowship in Surgical Oncology and through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.

3. Ability to participate in the on-call roster for the Acute Surgery Unit.

Selection Criteria

1. Qualifications and credentials required for core scope of practice in the specialty.

2. Evidence of additional qualifications, skills and/or experience required for specific scope of practice for the specialty.

3. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:

· Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team.

· Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.

· Excellent organisational, supervision and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships.

· Maintaining and developing knowledge, skills and professional performance to the level required for contemporary practice.

· Experience and involvement in quality.

4. Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources efficiently and contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system.

5. Demonstrated aptitude for clinical leadership which is evidenced by:

· Systems thinking and risk-taking aptitude.

· commitment to self -care and personal development.

· Capacity to maintain personal integrity, tolerate stress and demonstrate resilience.

· Commitment to building relationships, leading, and developing others.

6. Commitment to good governance, achieving results and managing risks.

7. Demonstrated commitment to Education, Training and Research, as applicable to the position.
