The Position

The Head of Engagement & Operations (Advancement) is a critical senior leadership role providing portfolio-wide operational leadership, coordination and oversight to support the effective delivery of Advancement's strategic priorities and work program. The role ensures that the systems, governance frameworks, policies, processes, and enabling services underpinning alumni engagement, philanthropy, and stewardship are strategically aligned, well-governed, and effectively delivered. Working in partnership with the Vice-President (Advancement) and colleagues across the University, the role supports the design and implementation of Advancement strategies, strengthens institutional capability, and ensures that engagement and operational activities advance the University's mission, priorities and areas of greatest need

This role provides portfolio-level visibility and oversight across Advancement's core functions, including:

* Alumni Relations and Community Engagement
* Communications and Events
* Donor Relations, Donor and Gift Services and Gift Governance
* CRM management, data integrity, business intelligence and reporting
* Advancement finance, workforce planning and operational performance
* Business services, facilities management and work health and safety

The Person

The Head of Engagement & Operations is accountable for timely, coordinated and well-governed delivery across the portfolio. This includes oversight of priority initiatives, monitoring progress against work plans, managing interdependencies, and providing clear, timely advice to the Vice-President (Advancement) to support informed decision-making. The successful candidate will bring an understanding of advancement-related functions, strong planning and risk judgment, and the ability to provide clear oversight and enable aligned delivery across the Advancement portfolio.

The School/Department

ANU Advancement leads the development, coordination and delivery of the University's advancement activities, strengthening lifelong relationships with alumni and donors and securing long-term philanthropic investment in support of the University's strategic priorities as Australia's national university.

Advancement operates as a complex, multi-stream portfolio delivering high-value outcomes across philanthropy, alumni engagement, donor stewardship and external relations, supported by significant governance, compliance, financial and workforce obligations. As the portfolio continues to mature and scale, a senior operational leader with full portfolio visibility is required to ensure coordinated delivery, disciplined execution and effective risk management.
