Your Role
Here's what you will be doing:
* Support real-world cyber mission work on cyber threat analysis, secure system design, vulnerability assessments, incident response preparedness, and cyber capability development.
* Apply cyber principles and best practices to help government and defence partners defend against threats, mitigate risk, and build operational resilience.
* Collaborate with systems engineers, data analysts, and software developers to integrate security into system architectures and mission workflows.
* Contribute to cyber maturity and posture assessments aligned with Australian Government frameworks such as the Essential Eight and ISM.
* Participate in technical investigations including system vulnerability evaluations, threat impact assessments, and development of mitigation strategies.
* Engage in active mentorship with MITRE cybersecurity professionals in Australia and the U.S. for technical and professional development.
* Learn about cybersecurity's role in Defence capability, intelligence operations, and allied collaboration frameworks like AUKUS.
* Take part in a two-week immersion at MITRE's U.S. headquarters, exploring global cyber programs and mission teams.
* Transition into a permanent cybersecurity role at MITRE | Australia following the program.
About You
The company is looking for:
* A Bachelor's degree (AQF Level 7 or higher) in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or related technical field.
* Early to mid-career experience, including recent graduates with strong foundational skills or several years of hands‑on cybersecurity experience.
* Working knowledge of cybersecurity fundamentals such as secure network architecture, system hardening, identity and access management, cryptography, and vulnerability management.
* Experience or familiarity with cybersecurity tools and frameworks like SIEM platforms, EDR, penetration testing tools, or threat modelling methodologies.
* Strong understanding of Australian Government cybersecurity policies including ISM, Essential Eight, and PSPF.
* Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
* Eligibility to obtain and maintain an Australian Government NV2 security clearance.
* Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, including for the two‑week U.S. immersion.
* Ability to work a minimum of 50% hybrid on‑site.
Preferred qualifications include:
* Honours, Master's, or PhD in Cybersecurity or related field, or 5+ years relevant professional experience.
* Hands‑on experience in cybersecurity engineering, threat intelligence, incident response, or cyber maturity assessments aligned with Australian government frameworks.
* Familiarity with Australian Defence cyber capabilities and allied cybersecurity collaboration (AUKUS, Five Eyes).
* Current NV1 or NV2 clearance and eligibility for Positive Vetting clearance.
* Relevant industry certifications such as GSEC, GCIH, OSCP, CISSP, or CCSP are beneficial but not required.
