Ready to spark new careers and pass on your skills?

Join CQUniversity and train the next generation of auto electrical professionals through hands‐on, industry‐standard teaching on campus, in workplaces, and online.

Why Teaching?

* Permanent, full-time (36.25 hrs/week)
* CQUniversity Mackay (Relocation support available)
* No FIFO | No night shifts | No coal board medicals | No site inductions
* Starting salary $104,560 (from $55.27/ hr) + OT + 17% superannuation

The role

Teaching into the Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology, you'll guide students through practical, entry‐level automotive skills with a strong focus on safety and workshop competence. You'll hold a minimum qualification in Automotive Electrical Technology, and dual‐trade candidates (e.g., Light Vehicle Mechanical) will be highly regarded.

CQUniversity operates under a structured Vocational Education and Training (VET) workload model that recognises both teaching time and the work done outside the classroom environment.

* Teaching time is typically 22 hrs/week, with up to 25 hrs/week by agreement (no more than 9 teaching hours in a day). Overtime may apply where you are formally required to teach above agreed hours.
* Preparation and marking are included in your paid hours – not done in your own time.
* Flexible start and finish times, planned around teaching needs, with flexibility supported where possible to accommodate personal, family and carer responsibilities.

What you'll need

* A relevant auto-electrical trade qualification, such as a Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology or similar.
* Current hands‐on industry experience in areas such as inspecting and diagnosing electrical systems across light vehicles, heavy vehicles, motorcycles, marine craft, outdoor power equipment, and basic automotive body repairs.
* An interest in mentoring apprentices, sharing your knowledge, and guiding learners in both workshop and classroom settings.
* No teaching experience required—only a willingness to work in a structured setting with assessment, documentation and student support.
