Team Overview
The Older Persons Mental Health Service (OPMHS) includes the community team and the Roy Fagan Centre (RFC).
The community team is a subspecialist multidisciplinary team led by old age psychiatrists that provides assessment, management, treatment and/or support for a range of circumstances.
People are generally seen when there is a mental health condition and age-related frailty, dementia or psychosocial complexity.
The RFC provides inpatient care for elderly patients with mental illness, often with age-related frailty or comorbid dementia, and serves as a quaternary referral centre for behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD).
The Waratah Unit is an eight-bed Specialist Dementia Care Unit, run in collaboration with Glenview Residential Aged Care Home and Dementia Support Australia, and receives psychiatrist, nursing and social work in-reach from the OPMHS.
Role
We are looking for an Old Age Psychiatrist to work in both the RFC (including on-call) and the community team.
They may be required to provide support to the Waratah Unit.
Key Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge and ability to implement evidence-based practices and adhere to contemporary clinical standards and policies relevant to OPMHS.
Recent experience in an older person's mental health setting.
Demonstrated knowledge and skill in risk assessment and risk management in relation to the clinical management of older clients with mental health problems, dementia, and/or physical health issues.
Demonstrated capacity to exercise a significant level of independent clinical judgement while working as a team player and providing clinical leadership to multidisciplinary decision-making.
Demonstrated patient focus by displaying personal qualities of respect, politeness and empathy while balancing duty-of-care considerations.

Details of Appointment
Permanent full-time day worker (with on-call) position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight.
Hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
For a period of twelve months from the date of publication this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar vacancies.
Salary and Allowances
Specialist Medical Practitioner salary $216,300 – $310,389 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation.
Motor vehicle allowance $28,786 per annum, pro rata.
Continuing Professional Development Allowance $16,480 per annum, pro rata.
Relocation and commencement support up to $15,000 for overseas appointees, $10,000 for interstate appointees.
Allowance in lieu of participating in private practice scheme – 35% of base salary (if applicable).
Other allowances as applicable.
Eligibility
Holds specialist registration or equivalent.
Registered Medical Practitioner on a specialist pathway or with recognised overseas qualification.
Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration where applicable.
Registration/licences remain current and valid at all times while employed.
Desirable
Current Driver's Licence.
