Job Overview
The Head Gardener is a pivotal role within the museum's operations, responsible for spearheading strategic planning initiatives for the gardens and fostering collaboration with various departments to develop programming and promote the institution.
Main Responsibilities:
* Horticultural Management: developing comprehensive garden care programs, advising on landscape plans for redevelopment projects, and preparing annual and triennial plans for garden development and maintenance.
* Maintenance of Grounds: ensuring external public areas are maintained to a high standard of safety and cleanliness, servicing garden vehicles and equipment, and repairing garden structures.
* Management: providing expert advice to Senior Management on parks and gardens imperatives, overseeing gardening staff, volunteers, apprentices, and interns, and contributing to reporting for the Annual Report.
* Public Programmes and Marketing: working closely with Learning and Audience Engagement to develop programming, contributing to heritage research, and representing the institution at events and seminars.
This is a permanent full-time position requiring flexible hours and an interest in the arts industry. The ideal candidate will have a Diploma/Degree in horticulture or landscape gardening, proven management experience, and extensive knowledge of horticulture in public environments.
