The School
Bannister Creek Primary School (PS) is an Independent Public School, situated in Lynwood. Our school caters for approximately 630 students from Kindergarten to Year 6 in a beautifully planned environment that focuses on providing sustainable opportunities including a school gardening club with vegetable, herb and Indigenous plant gardens and an outdoor classroom on site as well as Moort Boodja - a 6 Seasons Garden. Our proximity to the Bannister Creek allows us the privilege to embed an authentic Care for Country program. We have 24 classrooms including 6 purpose-built ECE rooms, as well as a contemporary library resource centre, specialist art, science and music rooms and a fully enclosed undercover area.

The Role
We are seeking a high-impact Upper Primary Teacher (Years 5–6) with a ability to lead engaging, developmentally responsive learning programs tailored to the unique needs of students in the upper primary phase. This role also includes responsibility for leading our Specialist Physical Education program, encompassing school-wide events, carnivals, sporting grants, and student leadership initiatives.
The successful applicant will ideally bring expert curriculum knowledge, deep understanding of positive behaviour support strategies, and the capacity to contribute to whole-school wellbeing and improvement priorities. They will be a collaborative team member and a confident, culturally responsive practitioner who leads with empathy, high expectations, and strategic use of data.
Key Responsibilities:
* Deliver high-impact teaching and learning programs for students in Years 5 and 6, aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum.
* Plan and lead our Specialist Physical Education program, including whole-school sports carnivals, incursions, excursions, and coordination of grants and resources.
* Implement targeted physical development programs, including the Fundamental Movement Skills program, Perceptual Motor Program, and support for whole-school physical wellbeing.
* Coordinate and lead key upper primary experiences, including the Year 6 Camp, Graduation, and student leadership opportunities.
* Embed inclusive, trauma-informed and positive behaviour support practices through a Positive Behaviour Schools framework.
* Foster strong partnerships with students, staff, families, and the wider community, promoting cultural responsiveness and relational trust.
We are ideally looking for applicant who:
* Knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum, particularly in the Years 5–6 phase of development.
* Strong understanding of child development, growth and wellbeing needs in upper primary students.
* Capacity to apply Cognitive Load Theory, explicit instruction, and inquiry-based learning to engage diverse learners.
* Proven ability to design and implement inclusive PE programs and whole-school events.
* Demonstrated success in positive behaviour management and creating safe, supportive classroom environments.
* High level of data literacy to assess, analyse, and act on student learning needs.
* Commitment to culturally responsive practice, including the integration of Aboriginal perspectives, Two-Way Learning, and Care for Country.
* Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, contributing positively to a collaborative school culture.
* Experience in planning and leading high-quality incursions, excursions, and end-of-year celebrations for senior primary students.
* Ability to secure and manage sporting and community grants to enhance school programs.
* Knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and strategies for supporting neurodiverse learners
