An opportunity exists to join our dynamic and vibrant Defence team as an Explosive Ordnance Armaments Technician or Electronic Technician within our Explosive Ordnance Maintenance Directorate. We are currently recruiting for Explosive Ordnance Armaments Technicians and Electronics Technicians in Explosive Ordnance Maintenance Directorate (EOMD) at the Torpedo Maintenance Facility (TMF) HMAS Stirling, WA in the Department of Defence. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, functionality, and readiness of the Australian Defence Force's guided weapon systems and explosive ordnance through technical maintenance, inspection and certification activities. This is a broadband position, offering an excellent opportunity for career growth. The successful candidate will be expected to actively work towards progression within the broadband, demonstrating increased capability, performance, and responsibilities over time to obtain and maintain the maintenance level authorities and requirements for advancement.

Responsibilities

- Maintain, inspect, and certify guided weapon systems and explosive ordnance in accordance with strict regulations.
- Work towards progression within the broadband by demonstrating increased capability, performance, and responsibilities to obtain and maintain maintenance level authorities.
- Attend nominated training courses and participate in merit selection processes as part of formal assessment for advancement.
- Be involved in the governance of maintenance tasks, including building and sustaining positive relationships as an effective team member, adhering to policy, processes and procedures in a highly regulated environment, and participating in audits and quality assurance activities.
- Carry out all workplace activities in accordance with WH&S; and technical regulatory requirements; operate hand and power tools and overhead crane; and manage documentation and maintenance reports.
- Provide on-the-job training and mentoring of maintenance tasks to other staff (APS 5 level and above).
- Engage in continuous personal progression of the broadband and, where required, travel Australia-wide to conduct maintenance activities.
- Access hazardous substances with appropriate PPE and work in hot environments as needed.
- Maintain Maintenance Authority for continued employment as it is considered an essential qualification for maintenance positions.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Entry at the APS 4 level with the possibility of progressing through the broadband via on-the-job training and training modules.
- Technical aptitude and drive to complete EO and maintenance training to satisfy KPI requirements and support career advancement to APS 6.
- Ability to prioritise competing demands, work independently with limited direction, and build effective stakeholder relationships.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; capability to engage with stakeholders and demonstrate 100% procedural compliance during maintenance.
- Ability to sit maintenance authority boards to progress to the next APS level and/or maintenance authority level.
- Willingness to travel to conduct maintenance activities Australia-wide.

Notes

Note: This position will be required to access US export controlled materiel and therefore applicants will be requested to disclose any dual citizenship with another country during the recruitment process. Dual citizens may be subject to further assessment and appointment to this position will be conditional upon approval to access US controlled export material in accordance with ITAR.

EOMD is an integral part of GWEO Maritime & Maintenance Branch, which is part of the Guided Weapons & Explosive Ordnance System Division. Our team consists of various disciplines (engineering, maintenance & technical inspection, project management, commercial, logistics, and corporate enabling services). We are located in Canberra, Penrith, Amberley, Melbourne and Stirling, and our focus is to acquire and sustain guided weapons and munitions for the Australian Defence Force.

Our ideal candidate will be someone seeking to commence a career in the Australian Public Service commencing at the APS 4 level and is able to satisfy the highly desirable qualifications stipulated and/or work towards progressing through the broadband via on the job training:

- Have the technical aptitude and drive to complete EO and maintenance training to satisfy KPIs and support career advancement to the APS 6 level; existing qualified people or those with suitable experience may qualify for a higher starting level.
- Have personal drive and prioritise competing demands to meet deadlines and display initiative.
- Think creatively about complex problems and propose sound options using research and technical approaches.
- Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility to meet Defence outcomes; work independently with limited direction and as part of a team; build and maintain effective relationships.
- Engage with stakeholders confidently using a range of communication skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Exercise initiative and judgement in interpreting policy and demonstrate 100% procedural compliance during maintenance.
- Demonstrate knowledge and ability by sitting maintenance authority boards to progress to the next APS level and/or maintenance authority level.
- Willingness to travel Australia-wide to conduct maintenance activities.
