About The Role
The City of Sydney is seeking a senior operational leader to manage and evolve its City Ranger services - a high-profile, community-facing function central to safety, health, amenity and regulatory compliance across the city.
Reporting to the Executive Director, City Services, the Manager, City Rangers provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of a large, mobile and diverse workforce delivering enforcement and compliance services in a complex legislative and stakeholder environment.
This role works closely with internal partners across City Services, Finance, People & Culture and Procurement, and engages externally with government agencies, unions, peak bodies and service providers.
Key Responsibilities Include
* set the strategic direction for City Ranger services, aligning priorities, standards and performance with Council objectives and community expectations
* lead, develop and sustain a high-performing workforce, embedding accountability, safety, wellbeing and continuous improvement
* oversee complex regulatory and compliance operations, ensuring effective, fair and consistent enforcement outcomes
* drive operational efficiency through systems, technology, data and process improvement
* manage financial, workforce and physical resources to deliver sustainable, high-quality services
* build strong internal and external relationships to support collaboration, trust and transparency in high-profile activities
* anticipate emerging trends, risks and regulatory changes to position City Ranger services for the future.
We're Looking For Someone With
* tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or substantial experience leading large, regulatory or compliance-based operational teams
* demonstrated experience providing strategic and operational leadership in complex, high-profile service environments
* strong working knowledge of relevant legislation and contemporary compliance and enforcement practices
* proven ability to lead, develop and engage a large, diverse workforce, including multiple layers of people leaders
* highly developed strategic, conceptual and analytical skills, with experience translating strategy into operational delivery
* demonstrated experience managing budgets, resources and performance to achieve sustainable outcomes
* sound understanding of WHS legislation and a track record of embedding safe, resilient work practices.

This role has the option of a rostered day off each month, known as a 19-day month.
