Purpose of the Position
The Senior Manager People and Culture will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources practices and processes. The role aligns Batchelor Institute’s goals with Human Resources initiative and leads and develops the People and Culture team and effectively manage employee relations, performance management, compliance and other Human Resources programs.
Duties
* Implement a Workforce Development Plan that incorporates HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy.
* Liaise between management and employees, addressing demands, grievances, or other issues.
* Support current and future business needs through development, engagement, motivation, and retention of human capital.
* Implement and monitor overall HR strategies, systems, policies and procedures across the organisation, including projects to build capability across the organisation.
* Foster and promote a positive and inclusive working environment.
* Oversee and provide advice on the Institute wide performance development and appraisal system that supports career progression and promotes high performance.
* Provide reports to management that support decision making through analysis of HR metrics.
* Ensure compliance with regulating bodies such as ASQA and TEQSA through maintaining up to date policies and accurate and timely HR reporting.
* Maintain legal compliance across all aspects of human resource management.
* Engage with unions and other external stakeholders as appropriate.
* Undertake other reasonable duties as directed by your line manager.
Selection Criteria - Essential
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural contexts of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities, and organisations.
* A minimum of five years’ experience in a senior Human Resources role, with demonstrated expertise in:
o Industrial relations processes and HR contemporary best practices;
o Leading high performing, service-oriented HR team;
o Providing accurate and strategic HR advice and data to the senior executives;
o Implement HR strategies and programs; and
o Preparing reports and delivering statistical insights.
* Highly effective interpersonal skills including proficient written and oral communication, adaptable to diverse audiences.
* Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
* Strong planning and implementation skills, with the ability to drive and influence outcomes.
* Demonstrated initiative and ability to manage workload priorities, meet tight deadlines and exercise sound judgement in delegating tasks.
* Sound understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, with a commitment to complying with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.
Desirable
* Tertiary qualification in Human Resources or a related field

* Applicants must be able and willing to undertake travel throughout the NT and Interstate (sometimes as a light aircraft passenger) and possess a C class Driver’s Licence.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position holds formal supervisory responsibilities. As a supervisor, this position will undertake and be responsible and accountable for:
* Ensuring all direct reports have completed all Mandatory training as required by the Institute.
* Probation periods being monitored and completed for each direct report in a timely manner.
* Ensuring an annual leave plan is developed and implemented for all direct reports and that annual leave balances are held below 30 days at all times.
* Ensuring leave bookings are accurately maintained and submitted in accordance with the Delegations (Administrative) Policy and relevant Staff Agreement/s.
* Engaging with direct reports to develop meaningful objectives and ensuring career development plans are established and recorded.
* Holding Performance feedback meetings on a regular basis (once per month minimum) with each direct report and provide feedback in a constructive and timely manner.
* Ensuring all delegations and responsibilities are undertaken in accordance with Institute Policies, Staff Agreements and Delegations.
Work Health & Safety
* Ensure all activities comply with WHS legislation and Institute policies & procedures.
* Implement & monitor risk management activities including, but not limited to, workplace inspections, incident/hazard investigation and follow-up, and implementation of risk controls.
* Analysis of WHS training requirements for staff including the provision of training and monitoring of training to ensure completion and currency.
