Salary: $87,000 – $130,000 per year + Super and Benefits
The Rockhampton Grammar School is seeking a passionate Secondary Teacher (Senior Ancient and/or Modern History) to join our team in 2026. The School is an independent co-educational day and boarding school, established in 1881, educating students from Prep to Year 12 and the Early Learning Years. It is the largest independent boarding school in Queensland and a leading school in regional Australia.

Position details
POSITION TITLE: Secondary Teacher (Senior Ancient and/or Modern History)
DEPARTMENT: Secondary
CLASSIFICATION: Full time
REPORTS TO: Head of Department
The School offers a competitive salary up to $147,048.00 p.a. plus super and benefits (Note: pay scale reflective of teaching experience per the RGS EBA).
Responsibilities
- Design and implement curriculum programs that embrace the School's Learning Framework.
- Create a positive classroom environment that enhances student learning.
- Establish and review students\' learning goals/outcomes and modify programs accordingly.
- Reflect on teaching practices and participate in the School\'s Personal Learning Programme.
- Build relationships and collaborate with colleagues to coordinate activities for students.
- Communicate with parents about student learning.
- Demonstrate professionalism and a commitment to professional development.
- Contribute to the School and wider community through co-curricular involvement.
- Maintain accurate records and meet deadlines.

Safeguarding children and young people
The School takes child protection seriously. Staff are required to meet the behaviour standards outlined in our Practice and Behaviour Guidelines, provided during induction. Duties include providing a welcoming and safe environment for children, promoting safety and wellbeing, responsible supervision, acting as a positive role model, reporting concerns, maintaining working with children documentation, and undergoing necessary checks.
Conditions of employment
Successful applicants will be subject to Working with Children Checks and Criminal Records Checks where applicable. The School conducts reference, identity, qualification, and professional registration checks as part of its screening processes.
Required licences/certificates
Registration with the Queensland College of Teachers.
