Offer description

At Thales, we know technology has the ability to make our world more secure, sustainable, and inclusive – and that it's all driven by human intelligence.

From manufacturing and engineering to cybersecurity and space, we're driving progress in some of the world's most important industries – and working together to build a future we can all trust.

Our Team

Our Explosive Ordnance Systems team enables the Australian Defence Force through storage, distribution, maintenance and disposal of these systems, all across Australia. As a turnkey solution, we offer the opportunity to gain a holistic understanding of our business operations, creating huge opportunities for growth.

Your Role

This exciting role exists to develop and deliver packaging solutions for energetics materials that meet the requirements for local, national and international transport of goods, write internal quality, safety and engineering governance processes, and drive the industrialisation of packaging solutions at an operational level.

Additionally, this role will provide varying degrees of technical support to a number of internal customers from the bidding/quotation stage through development, procurement, manufacturing and delivery/logistics.

Responsibilities include:

* Lead or contribute to the resolution of packaging quality issues and actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives
* Collaborate effectively with teams, work groups, and individuals beyond formal reporting lines to achieve organisational objectives
* Demonstrate respect for the needs and contributions of others in all actions and decisions
* Maintain a broad perspective by focusing on overarching goals, prioritising major objectives over isolated issues in day‐to‐day operations
* Define and execute long‐term plans and strategies to achieve personal and organisational goals
* Write technical and supporting documents for packaging solutions, and compile safety case documentation for submission to the relevant Design Authority
Your Experience

On day one in this role, we'll expect you to bring the following skills, experience and behaviours:

* Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, chemical or equivalent), technical or trade qualifications in a manufacturing environment
* Basic knowledge and understanding of product design and industrialised manufacturing processes
* Proven ability to deliver task outcomes that meet safety, quality, cost and schedule requirements
* Proven ability to write technical reports and documents
* Competence in risk assessments, attention to detail, and adherence to regulatory requirements
* Experience with or training in Dangerous Goods Codes (ADG, IMDG, IATA) – desirable
* Basic knowledge or experience in explosives and hazardous materials handling – desirable
* Experience in packaging design, materials and testing – desirable
* Experience in a manufacturing environment or equivalent – desirable
* Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. Autodesk Inventor) for designing – desirable
* Quality management experience – desirable
