Position Information Sylvania High School is a comprehensive high school located in the Sutherland Shire and residing on the land of the Dharawal speaking people. The student population is approximately 750 with 35% EAL/D students and 27 Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students. Our school has a well‐established reputation for outstanding academic, performing arts, sporting and leadership achievements. The school has a high number of extra‐curricular programmes that enable students to develop their skills and potential to be well prepared for the world beyond school. The school's core values of scholarship, honour and service promote high expectations of performance and behaviour, as well as dispositions for learning. The school has a Support Unit with three Autism (AU) classes, and one Intellectually Moderate/Autism (IO/AU) class. The school already proudly advocates for equal access and opportunity for all students in inclusive learning environments.
The successful applicant will join a collaborative CAPA faculty committed to building strong foundations, improving student learning outcomes, supporting students across a wide range of abilities, and actively participating in ensembles and extra‐curricular programmes.
Specific Selection Criteria
* Approval to teach Music, Music Extension 1 and 2 and Entertainment Industry (VET)
* Demonstrated ability to deliver engaging, innovative, and student‐centred Music teaching and learning programmes, including a strong passion for music education that inspires student engagement and achievement
* Proven capacity to implement effective behaviour management strategies that maintain a positive and respectful learning environment
* Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, parents, and the wider school community to support student learning and contribute positively to the school environment through whole‐school programmes and extra‐curricular initiatives
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
