Casual Laboratory Technician – Sample Preparation (Pilot Plant and R&D Support)

Location: Western Australia
Employment Type: Full time

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to support our small-scale sample preparation laboratory servicing both the pilot plant and R&D teams. This role is ideal for recent graduates or early-career professionals with a degree in Chemistry (or related discipline) who are looking to gain hands-on laboratory experience.

Key Responsibilities

* Sample Management: Log, track, and organise incoming solid and liquid samples from the pilot plant and R&D laboratory.

* Sample Preparation: Perform (or be trained to perform) microwave digestion of solid samples and prepare dilutions of liquid samples for ICP-OES/MS analysis.

* Routine Measurements: Conduct pH, conductivity, and ISE measurements to support ongoing plant operations.

* Safety & Compliance: Follow strict procedures for the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous, toxic, and corrosive reagents. Monitor lab environmental conditions to reduce contamination risks.

* Documentation: Maintain accurate and organised records of sample preparation, analytical procedures, and data to support process optimisation and R&D work.

About You

* Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Sciences, or a closely related field (required).

* No prior laboratory work experience necessary — full training provided.

* Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures accurately.

* Good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

* Interest in analytical chemistry, minerals processing, or pilot-scale operations is highly regarded.

What We Offer

* Extensive hands-on training in sample preparation and analytical workflows.

* Opportunity to work alongside experienced chemists and process engineers.

* A great entry point into the minerals, chemical, or analytical laboratory industries.

We recently filled this role on a casual basis with an excellent candidate who is now relocating internationally. Our activities are progressing and as a result, the position is being re-advertised as full time. If you’re interested, we welcome a new application, as earlier submissions will not be reviewed.
