We're looking for a Principal Telecoms Engineer for one of our key clients who are seeking someone to lead the design, integration, and implementation of mission-critical communications networks. This is a high-impact role where your expertise will directly influence the reliability, safety, and performance of transport systems millions of people rely on every day.
Responsibilities
1. Lead the design and configuration of secure, high-availability IP/MPLS networks (Cisco & Juniper)
2. Drive integration, testing, commissioning, and migration activities across multi-vendor platforms
3. Ensure network designs meet safety, redundancy, and security requirements in mission-critical environments
4. Troubleshoot and resolve complex network challenges through diagnostics and root-cause analysis
5. Mentor and guide junior engineers, shaping a high-performing communications team
6. Deliver documentation, reports, and procedures that meet strict industry and project standards
Qualifications
7. 10+ years' experience in network engineering with a focus on design, configuration, and integration
8. Strong Cisco (ASR/Nexus) & Juniper (SRX) background – MPLS, BGP, OSPF, QoS, VPNs
9. Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Telecommunications Engineering (Engineers Australia membership preferred)
10. Professional certifications: CCNP and/or JNCIS/JNCIP
11. Proven experience in large-scale infrastructure or operational technology (OT) environments – rail or signalling highly regarded
12. Ability to thrive in fast-paced delivery environments, managing competing priorities and deadlines
