About the Role
We are seeking a reliable and customer-focused candidate for a Deli Assistant role within our Tucker Fresh IGA stores. In this role, you will primarily focus on preparing and presenting fresh products daily while ensuring customer satisfaction through excellent service and well-maintained displays. The successful candidate will report to the Department Manager and will support the team in delivering high-quality service to all customers. You will assist with maintaining department presentation, food safety standards and stock rotation, while contributing to a proactive and positive culture in line with Tucker Fresh's vision, mission and values.
Responsibilities
* Setting the standard where "every local is loved"
* Ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent service
* Assisting customers with product selection and providing samples
* Understanding and responding to customer requests and needs
* Informing customers about specials, promotions and new items
* Preparing fresh food onsite
* Cutting, slicing, weighing, packaging and pricing deli products
* Building attractive displays and maintaining first-in, first-out stock rotation
* Ensuring products are fresh, well presented and within use-by dates
* Maintaining clean work areas and strict hygiene standards
* Operating and cleaning food preparation machinery and equipment
* Working safely in accordance with legislation and all supermarket safety policies and procedures
* Assisting with stock handling, loading and unloading as required
* Reporting to the Department Manager or 2IC as required
Skills & Experience
* Experience working in a similar or fresh food department role (preferred)
* Food preparation and handling skills
* Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices
* Exceptional customer service skills and approachable personality
* Commitment to providing excellent customer experiences with enthusiasm and energy
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Ability to maintain a clean and safe workspace
* Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift moderate weights
* Food Handling Certificate (desirable)
