The Opportunity
We're looking for an experienced Senior Payroll Compliance Specialist to join a high-performing Payroll team. This role is critical in ensuring payroll compliance, governance, and data integrity across a complex organisation. It also plays a key function with Industrial relations and Employment relations. Working closely with senior payroll leadership, you'll play a key role in payroll audits, risk management, system administration, and remediation activities, while supporting accurate and timely payroll delivery. This is an 18 month fixed‐term contract.
Key Responsibilities
* Ensure payroll compliance with Fair Work, NES, awards, enterprise agreements, tax and superannuation requirements
* Support ongoing improvements to payroll governance frameworks and system implementations
* Lead and participate in internal and external payroll audits
* Identify payroll discrepancies and implement corrective actions
* Partner with stakeholders to maintain accurate award and agreement data
Payroll Risk & Assurance
* Conduct risk assessments and control testing across payroll processes
* Analyse payroll data to identify compliance gaps and risks
* Prepare detailed reports and present findings to key stakeholders
* Maintain clear documentation of testing procedures and outcomes
Quality Assurance & Reporting
* Review payroll transactions including wages, overtime, allowances, terminations, and leave
* Perform reconciliations and reporting to support payroll accuracy
* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and system enhancements
Payroll Operations Support
* Review pay run outputs, including variance analysis and exception reporting
* Support superannuation processing and EOFY compliance activities
* Assist with salary reviews, incentives, and workers compensation payments
* Provide BAU payroll support during peak periods
Stakeholder Engagement
* Manage complex payroll queries and escalations
* Collaborate with Finance, Risk, HR, and leadership teams
* Deliver payroll training and maintain process documentation
About You
You're a detail-oriented payroll professional with a strong compliance mindset and the ability to work across complex environments.
Key Skills & Experience
* Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and compliance
* Experience interpreting awards and enterprise agreements
* Solid understanding of:
o PAYG, payroll tax, superannuation, FBT and GST
o Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting
o Leave entitlements and statutory requirements
* Experience in payroll audits, risk management, and controls
* Proven ability to identify issues and drive process improvements
* Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
* High level of confidentiality and professionalism
Systems Experience
* Experience with payroll systems such as Workday, Preceda, Dayforce, iChris or similar
