Fremantle Ports is Western Australia's primary container, general cargo and bulk port. We are seeking an experienced Marine Specialist to provide expert marine advice, support continuous improvement, and contribute to safe, efficient and compliant marine operations across Fremantle and Kwinana.
This is a senior specialist role with broad organisational influence, suited to an experienced marine professional who brings strong technical capability, sound judgement and a collaborative approach.

Role Highlights
Reporting to the General Manager Operations, the Marine Specialist supports port-wide marine safety, risk and operational performance by providing specialist advice, analysis and coordination across marine activities. The role works closely with the Harbour Master's Office, operational teams and external service providers to support high standards of safety, compliance and service delivery.
The position contributes to marine improvement initiatives, supports incident and hazard reviews, and assists with the monitoring of pilotage and towage service performance alongside the HMO. With no direct reports, the role achieves outcomes through collaboration, subject-matter expertise and influence.
Key responsibilities
* Contribute to and support marine improvement and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Support and participate in marine incident and near-miss investigations, including analysis and reporting.
* Assist with the review and assessment of marine hazards and operational risks.
* Provide advice on marine legislation, standards and international conventions, in support of operational decision-making.
* Monitor pilotage and towage service performance and compliance in collaboration with the Harbour Master's Office.
* Support marine governance, standards and operational improvement activities.
* Prepare reports, briefings and recommendations for management and governance forums.
* Build effective working relationships with internal teams, regulators and industry stakeholders.
What Makes You a Great Fit
You are an experienced marine professional with strong analytical skills and a practical, collaborative approach. You are comfortable operating in a regulated environment, providing specialist advice and working alongside statutory and operational authorities to support safe and effective outcomes.
Essential requirements
* Master Mariner (Class 1 Unlimited) Certificate of Competency.
* Significant experience in marine operations, compliance, risk or technical advisory roles.
* Strong understanding of port operations, including pilotage, towage and vessel-handling activities.
* Experience contributing to marine incident investigations and/or emergency response.
* Well-developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Sound commercial awareness and business judgement.
Desirable
* Management or postgraduate qualifications in logistics or a related discipline.
* Auditor and/or investigations qualifications.
